DaBōK Acupuncture & TCM Clinic

Acupuncture and moxibustion for Acton, Erin, Georgetown, Guelph, Rockwood

About the Practitioner

Dr. Ariel Kim, Ph.D. is an educator, researcher, and Registered Acupuncturist whose work is grounded in both intellectual inquiry and ancestral wisdom. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in East Asian Languages and Literatures (Korean Applied Linguistics) from the University of Oregon and teaches in the Department of Linguistics and Languages at McMaster University. Her academic journey has long explored how meaning is shaped not only through words but through presence, connection, and context.

During the pandemic, a deeper calling emerged, one shaped by the need to understand health more holistically and care for others more intentionally. This led Ariel to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a path that felt both new and deeply familiar.

Ariel comes from a long line of healers. In 1517, her ancestor An-guk, Kim, a prominent Joseon-era scholar, compiled Ch’angjinbang Chwalyo, one of Korea’s earliest medical texts on epidemics. Generations later, her great-grandfather and grandfather practiced Korean Oriental Medicine rooted in classical TCM.

Ariel now carries that legacy forward as an instructor at the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and at DaBōK Acupuncture and TCM clinic where healing is more than a service-it is a tradition. Her approach is deeply personal, patient-centered, and rooted in the belief that the body and mind are interconnected. She draws from acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, and lifestyle therapy to create treatments that are not rushed or routine, but attuned to each individual’s unique rhythm and needs.

At DaBōK, Ariel offers care that bridges the past and present, honouring her ancestors and each patient who walks through the door.

The Meaning of DaBōK

DaBōK (다복) means “many fortunes” in Korean - a name that embodies abundance, well-being, and blessings. It also holds deep personal significance: it was the name of my late grandmother, who lovingly raised us with grace and healing hands. As a child, whenever I felt unwell, my grandmother would gently place her hand over the discomfort and whisper, “내 손이 약손이다” (nae soni yaksongida) “my hand is medicine.” And somehow, the pain would ease. My grandmother’s spirit continues to inspire the care we offer at DaBōK, rooted in love, guided by healing, and shared with every patient who walks through our door.
